Tomorrow is todayFrancesco Billari is a Professor of Demography and since November 2022 has been the Rector of Bocconi University in Milan, after serving as Dean for Faculty. He has been a lecturer at the University of Oxford (Department of Sociology, where he was also Director) and at Nuffield College (where he was a Professorial Fellow), as well as at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (Director of Independent Research on Early Adulthood Demography).
His main interests are fertility and family change, the transition to adulthood, life course analysis, population forecasting, digitalization, demography, and comparative surveys. His works have been published in major scientific journals in demography, economics, epidemiology and public health, geography, sociology, and statistics. He has worked on numerous international projects and is currently the PI of the European Research Council Advanced Grant.
He has been president and secretary general / treasurer of the European Association for Population Studies and received the "Clogg Award" from the Population Association of America in 2012. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and an Affiliate of the Population Studies Center, University of Pennsylvania.
