Fight against social marginalization and address the issue of NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) - that vast and diverse group of girls and boys with a deprived socio-cultural background and low education, who struggle to connect with the world of work and education. Their family and social networks are often lacking, trust in institutions and future opportunities is shaken, and this exposes them to a high risk of marginalization.
According to the 2022 Invalsi data, school dropout rate in Italy is 9.7%, distributed throughout the national territory, but with higher percentages in the South and on the islands. This is a significant portion of young people at risk of social marginalization. This risk increases when considering that 34.6% of young people between 15 and 29 years old have dropped out of both studies and job search. The percentage rises to 39% among women, well above the OECD average of 15%.
Education is fundamental, and too many young people are at risk of dropping out. The pandemic has only worsened the situation, making the need for intervention even more urgent.
