Curriculum

Christine Ballarin, environmental engineer at the Polytechnic University of Milan, currently serves as the head of the Office for Planning and Enhancement of Water Resources for the Municipality of Milan.

He has gained a decade of experience in hydrological and hydraulic modeling of watercourses for the protection of the territory from river floods and territorial planning, also collaborating with the River Po Basin Authority.

She has specialized in the implementation of conceptual and mathematical models of groundwater flow to support the management of reclamation systems on behalf of the main national and international industrial operators.

At the Green and Environment Department of the Municipality of Milan, we work on concrete actions to develop a water resilience plan, with the aim of safeguarding the territory from floods, using water resources as an energy source, reducing drinking water consumption, and optimizing resources in agriculture.

Currently working on Natural Based Solutions for climate change adaptation in urban areas. She has drafted, in collaboration with Metropolitana Milanese, the Integrated Water Service manager, the "Guidelines for the design of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) in the municipal territory".

In collaboration with MUSA Scarl, University of Bicocca and Metropolitan City of Milan, works on the development of an operational model for the hydrogeological and thermal management of the subsoil through the sharing of databases concerning the water table, geothermal models, and the creation of a Steering Committee for urban geothermal energy with the primary goal of creating an informative and regulatory tool for the hydrogeological and thermal management of the subsoil.

It is also a reference for the Municipality of Milan for the "River Contracts" of the Lombardy Region and a member of the C40 Network "Water Safe Cities Accelerator".
