Women&Tech® Young AmbassadorsHello! I am Carmela Calabrese, a post-doc researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology. I work in Computer Vision and Multimodal Learning, specifically, I develop artificial intelligence algorithms to enable robots to recognize and anticipate human actions, with a strong interest in human-machine interaction in assistive contexts.
After a PhD in Information Engineering, I chose to continue research driven by curiosity and the desire to build technologies that are truly useful and inclusive. I deeply believe in the value of interdisciplinary work and in the need to make science accessible.
For me, women's emancipation is not just a professional issue, but a fundamental principle that touches every aspect of society: from the right to education and work, to the freedom to be, choose, and live without fear.
In a world where too many women still suffer discrimination, violence, or are deprived of their fundamental freedoms – often in silence – I feel the need and responsibility to actively contribute to a cultural change. Being part of a network like Women&Tech is, for me, a concrete way to promote female talent, support new generations, and build together a fairer, more aware, and respectful future.
