Postdoctoral Bioinformatics Fellow at the Gladstone Institute
Alicja is a researcher in biology, mathematics, and machine learning. Of Polish-Italian nationality, she works at the Gladstone Institute in San Francisco. Her goal is to use AI to better understand the connections between human genes. Her interest in both mathematics and biology led her to earn a PhD at Imperial College London in both disciplines. Her PhD focused on creating a mathematical model of gene behavior in the stem cells of a small worm called C. elegans. As part of her PhD, she worked with AstraZeneca using databases on various proteins to understand their pharmacological potential.
Her international background has allowed her to work at various international research institutes, such as the Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and ETH Zurich. At the core of her research is the theory that mathematics can explain complex biological interactions in a way simple enough to understand their broader significance.
