Luigi Calzolai

I am a scientific officer at the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, in the Institute for Health and Consumer Protection in Ispra.
I obtained my Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Siena, Italy in 1996.
I began my post-PhD adventure in science at the University of California at Davis, followed by 5 years in the group of Nobel laureate Kurt Wuthrich at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. At ETH I was working on structural biology of prion diseases such as Mad Cow disease and Creutzfelft-Jacob disease.
Before joining the JRC of European Commission in 2008, I was Senior Lecturer of Biochemistry at the Medway School of Pharmacy, University of Kent, UK.
