Amleto D'Amicis

Si laurea in Biologia nell'anno accademico 1970-71. Da quella data, con diverse borse di studio, ha potuto frequentare corsi di perfezionamento in Scienza dell'Alimentazione e Nutrizione Umana in Italia, presso l'Università di Roma e l'INN e all'estero, presso le Università di Londra, di Loughborought (UK) e di Glasgow, dove ha dedicato particolare interesse al metabolismo energetico e alla fisiologia della nutrizione. Dal 1975 è Ricercatore presso l'INN nei Laboratori di Nutrizione Umana fino al 2008 quando lascia l’Istituto con la qualifica di Dirigente di Ricerca. Dagli inizi degli anni 80 si interessa all'Epidemiologia della Nutrizione e a tale scopo segue numerosi corsi di alto livello di Epidemiologia e Biostatistica con enfasi nutrizionale, presso Istituzioni italiane (Istituto Superiore di Sanità) e straniere, in particolare l'INSERM di Parigi, la School of Public Health della State University del Minnesota a Minneapolis-St.Paul (USA) (Master in Nutritional Epidemiology) e la New York State University at Buffalo (NY) Dept of Preventive Medicine.
L'interesse scientifico va dagli aspetti di base della nutrizione, come lo studio del metabolismo energetico e della composizione corporea in vivo nell'uomo, agli aspetti epidemiologici sui rapporti tra alimentazione e salute e in particolare tra stile di vita e stato di nutrizione.
E' membro di numerosi gruppi di lavoro (LARN, Linee Guida alimentari, Codex, Task Force Italiana contro l’Obesità (TFOI-OMS)), commissioni (Commissione Stili di Vita e Comunicazione del Ministero della Salute, Redattore del Rapporto sullo Stato Sanitario del Paese), e comitati scientifici nazionali e internazionali. E’ membro di Società Scientifiche nazionali ed internazionali, nelle quali ha ricoperto e ricopre anche incarichi nei direttivi. E' autore di numerose pubblicazioni scientifiche su riviste nazionali ed internazionali. E’ nel board e referee di riviste scientifiche nazionali e internazionali.
Ha diretto l'Unità di Documentazione e Informazione Nutrizionale dell'Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca per gli Alimenti e la Nutrizione. E’ stato tra i responsabili di una vasta indagine sui consumi e i comportamenti alimentari degli italiani ed è responsabile di altri numerosi progetti di ricerca nazionali ed europei relativi agli alimenti, stili di vita e loro rapporti con la salute. E' stato membro del Comitato nazionale per la Sicurezza Alimentare del Ministero della Salute fino al 2014.
Attualmente svolge attività di docente e è Vicepresidente della Società italiana di Nutrizione Umana (SINU).

In 1971 he got degree in Biology at University of Rome “La Sapienza”, discussing an experimental thesis on nutritional issue prepared during a two years stage at the Italian National Institute of Nutrition (INN). From that date, with various scholarships, he followed Master Courses in Food Science and Human Nutrition in Italy, at the University of Rome and at the INN, and at the University of London, University of Loughborought (UK) and University of Glasgow, where he dedicated particular interest to the energy metabolism and to the physiology of the nutrition. From 1975 he is researcher at the INN in the Laboratories of Human Nutrition. From the beginnings of years 80 he oriented his scientific interests to the Nutritional Epidemiology and he followed courses of high level of Epidemiology and Biostatistics with emphasis to nutritional aspects, at the Italian Superior Institutite for Health and other countries, in particular the INSERM of Paris, the School of Public Health of the State University of the Minnesota to Minneapolis-St.Paul (USA) (Master in Nutritional Epidemiology) and the New York State University at Buffalo (NY) Dept of Preventive Medicines.
The overall scientific interest ranges from the aspects of basic nutrition, like the study of the energey metabolism and the body composition in man, to the epidemiologic aspects nutrition and health and in particular between lifestyle, nutritional status and obesity.
He carries out didactic activity for the matter of Human Nutrition and Nutritional Epidemiology at University and post University levels.
He is (and has been) member of numerous work groups LARN (Italian RDA); Dietary Guide Lines; Codex; Italian Task Force against Obesity (TFOI-OMS)), of several committee (ad hoc Committee on Life Styles and Communication of the Ministry of the Health; Editor of the Rapport on the Health State of the Country; Food Security Committee of the Ministry of the Health), and other national and international scientific boards. He is member of national and international Scientific Societies. He is author of numerous scientific papers on national and international journals and is referee of numerous national and international scientific journals.
He has been Director of Organic Units and Director of the Life Style and Wellbeing Program of INRAN as research Director. Currently he is retired from research but continues its interest in human nutrition as Vice President of Italian Human Nutrition Society (SINU) and as lecturer at university level.
