Stefano A. CERRI (Parma, 1947) è stato Professore di Informatica (1985 Un. Milano; 1999 Un. Montpellier). Dal settembre 2015 è Professore Emerito dell’Un. di Montpellier. Dal 28 giugno 2018 è stato nominato Distinguished Fellow della Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Trento, Italia (https://www.fbk.eu/it/ ). Scholar H-Index: 17; Research Gate: 18,70.
Si è laureato in Fisica, indirizzo elettronico, a Pisa (1971), ha lavorato come ricercatore e docente di ruolo alle Università di Pisa, Amsterdam, Milano e Montpellier, come professore visitatore alla Università Libera di Bruxelles (Laboratorio di Intelligenza Artificiale) e all’Ecole Supérieure de Science Informatique di Nizza-Sophia Antipolis, attualmente Politecnico dell’Università di Nizza. E’ stato uno dei fondatori dell’Intelligenza Artificiale in Europa, essendo il primo segretario di ECCAI (1982), Presidente di ECAI84 e uno dei fondatori della associazione italiana AI*IA.
I suoi contributi scientifici più importanti riguardano l’intersezione tra Informatica ed apprendimento umano, che include Computazione, Cognizione e Comunicazione. Ha iniziato con la ricerca sul sistema visivo umano (elettrofisiologia e psicofisica: Università di Pisa, Laboratorio di Neurofisiologia del CNR e Dipartimento di Informatica; e Università di Amsterdam, Laboratorio di Fisica Medica); successivamente dedicandosi ad Intelligenza Artificiale ed apprendimento umano (Amsterdam, Milano, Montpellier).
E’ stato autore di circa 160 articoli in riviste internazionali, atti di conferenze con revisori, capitoli di libri; ha redatto 9 libri; è stato relatore invitato in conferenze, Università e industrie (45); ha partecipato a più di 25 progetti europei; in 2 di loro è stato coordinatore scientifico.
Tra il 2005 ed il 2010 è stato Vice-Direttore (con Michel Robert e François Pierrot) del Laboratorio di Informatica, Robotica e Microelettronica di Montpellier: LIRMM (www.lirmm.fr), 400 ricercatori; una unità pluri-istituzionale francese dell’Università di Montpellier, del CNRS (Centro Nazionale della Ricerca Scientifica) e dell’INRIA (Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca in Informatica ed Automazione) che riunisce tutte le attività di ricerca nel settore della regione Languedoc-Roussillon. Il Laboratorio ha ottenuto alla fine del mandato il più alto grado di valutazione (A+).
Stefano Cerri ha sviluppato un modello unificato per Agenti umani ed artificiali che forniscono mutuamente vari tipi di servizi. In questo momento, il suo impegno maggiore adotta la visione del movimento Web Science riguardo ai modelli, alle infrastrutture e alle applicazioni di supporto alle comunità connesse di Agenti umani che lavorano, giocano, imparano e contribuiscono alla politica in modo collettivo.

He graduated in Physics in Pisa (1971); worked as tenured staff member at the Universities of Pisa, Amsterdam, Milan and Montpellier; as visiting professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussels, VUB-AI Lab and ESSI-Nice-Sophia Antipolis (currently Polytech UNSA). He was among the founders of Artificial Intelligence in Europe, being the first secretary of ECCAI (1982), the Chair of ECAI 84 at Pisa and one of the founders of the Italian AI*IA association.
His main scientific contributions, concern the intersection between Informatics and Human Learning, combining Computation, Cognition and Communication. He started with research on the Human visual system (electrophysiology and psychophysics: Pisa, CNR Laboratory for Neurophysiology and Department of Informatics and Amsterdam, Laboratory for Medical Physics, UvA); then Artificial Intelligence and Human Learning (Amsterdam, Milano, Montpellier).
He authored about 160 papers in international journals, peer reviewed conference proceedings, chapters of books; edited 9 books; was invited speaker at conferences, Universities and Industries (45); participated to more than 25 European R&D Projects, in 2 of them he was scientific coordinator (PI).
Between 2005 and 2010 he was Deputy Director of the Montpellier Laboratory of Informatics, Robotics, and Microelectronics: LIRMM: www.lirmm.fr , 400 researchers: a French cross-faculty research entity of the University of Montpellier and the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS): the Lab obtained the best evaluation score at the end of the mandate (A+).
Stefano Cerri developed a unified formal model for human and artificial Agents mutually delivering various kinds of services. Currently, his main commitment adopt the Web Science movement’s vision concerning models, infrastructures and applications supporting connected communities of human Agents jointly working, playing, learning and contributing to politics.
