Women&Technologies: research and innovation
IFIP
WCC World Computer Congress
MIC - Milano Convention Centre, Via Gattamelata 5
8th September 2008
9.30 – 18.30
The conference was held within the prestigious WCC (World Computer Congress) and was dedicated to women and technologies, with a particolar focus on research and innovation.
This focus served to let women take centre stage not only as users, but as creators of technology, who interpret the latter in a new and creative way with a distinctly feminine touch.
An ambitious strategic objective that was not limited to a series of “top down” speeches and contributions, but rather consisted of a more ample and articulate discussion that was particularly open to the following topics:
l Women not only as users, but as producers of technologies
l Research and innovation
The focus of the conference – which benefited from the presence and contributions of highly qualified guests and the observations of women leaders in ICT at a global level, be it in Research, Institutions or Industry – was that of toppling the stereotypes still associated with the female approach to technology, developing new arguments, establishing direct links for interaction and discovering the wide opportunities available for creating syngeries that reap potentially boundless results.
With this in mind, several specific topics were chosen, discussed and elaborated within different sessions that were attended by the highest qualified international experts:
l Art and Affective Computing; Interaction and Dialogue in the Web Communities of the future, from products to services
l Innovation in Enterprises and Institutions, the profitable use of IT technologies in the global economy
l Women and ICT in Europe
The conference, admission free with registration, was held in both Italian and English, with simultaneous translations.
The conference was designed and planned by Gianna Martinengo, President of the Women&Technologies Conference at the IFIP WCC 2008, who has dedicated her life as a researcher and entrepreneur to the relationship between women and technology.
